1st: I, too, remember the military - and military bases - as they once were. And I too get teary eyed when I am forced to compare that memory to today's military reality. My childhood military base was Fort Sheridan in Illinois. Many fond memories, as well as memories of great respect and truly wonderful benefits afforded my WWII father. The same was never true for my father's own VietNam Veteran sons, nor their Golf War veteran sons: they all suffered horribly, as do my current-day Iraq War military friends and husbands. Bush is insane and needs to be stopped! 'Nuff said.
Curious: It would have been nice if the government had learned its lesson from Vietnam. The Iraq War is sad enough without adding veteran neglect to the list of offenses.
